According to BBC News, Foreign Minister of North Korea, Ri
Yong-ho, has accused President Trump of declaring war against North Korea based
on a tweet stating that North Korea (and its leader) “won’t be around much
longer”. Mr. Ri has also warned the U.S. that North Korea will shoot down U.S.
warplanes after some warplanes flew near
North Korea’s coast. In response to what Mr. Ri said, White House spokeswoman,
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, denies any declaration of war against North Korea. Many countries have spoken about their
concerns over this saying that they want this feud to end before things get out
of hands.

Both sides of this issue have been pushing at each other for some time, and it seems like they have reached their breaking point. Can we just talk about how this is all occurring through twitter though? It is so mind boggling how WORLD LEADERS are communicating this way and seemingly using it as a major form of communication with each other. It was foolish of Trump to say that North Korea won't be around much longer, but North Korea also seems to be overreacting with this tweet. On the other hand, every country has the right to take these extremely serious matters to heart, so if the situation were reversed, the US would also probably take this as a literal threat.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to think of the exchange of words as 'communication' at all. Korea's reaction, though 'convenient' for propaganda, is also likely a reaction based on such a high context culture where the directness of President Trump is unfathomable.
ReplyDeleteTo me this seems childish. Posting about one another on twitter, a social media site, makes you think how the world is turning to social media to talk and post about everything now a days. I believe both countries are taking this as literal threats but I do not see any advancements yet towards war. This would be another reason why I would potentially like to move to Canada one day. Hahaha
